Report: Kroger's Pricing Problem

Our new report combines Ohio inspection records and nearly 2,000 voluntary shopper accounts to expose overcharging, misleading sales, and discounts customers can’t access.

Key findings

  • More than 1 in 3 Ohio Kroger stores reviewed overcharged customers.

  • Inspectors recorded 58 failed inspections. In Butler county, half of the inspections failed.

  • Overcharges averaged more than 20 percent above shelf prices.

  • 557 shopper submissions (29 percent) described overcharging, including repeated trips to customer service to get their money back.

  • Shoppers also reported misleading sales and inaccessible discounts: 247 submissions described misleading signage, and 139 described difficulty obtaining digital-only prices.
